How Eurostat measures Belgian average income
This is a mean built from national accounts: the total wage bill divided by full-time-equivalent employees. It is gross of the employee's 13.07% social security and income tax, and it does not include employer contributions. Because it is a mean, high earners lift it, so a typical salary is lower.
We would have preferred Statbel's own survey, which gives a median and splits by region and sector, but its site blocked automated access when we checked on October 18, 2026, and the OECD cross-check could not be retrieved either. So this page has no median and no Brussels, Flanders or Wallonia figures. We would rather leave them out than estimate them.
Growth since 2021
Year by year the series reads EUR 49,706 (2021), EUR 53,559 (2022), EUR 57,756 (2023) and EUR 59,632 (2024): up 19.97% over the three years. Most of the rise came in 2022 and 2023 (EUR 3,853 and EUR 4,197); 2024 added EUR 1,876. Figures for 2025 were not yet in the dataset.
The average compared with the minimum wage
Belgium's minimum (GGMMI) stands at EUR 2,234 a month for July to December 2026 on Eurostat's figures, EUR 26,808 if paid for 12 months, equal to 44.96% of the 2024 average, though the two figures are from different years. Because Belgian compliance is measured on total pay including year-end bonuses (per GrenzInfoPunkt, a secondary source), compare packages rather than base salaries. What the average salary costs an employer
Belgium's employer charges have no ceiling, so they scale with every euro of pay:
- Basic employer contribution: 24.92% x EUR 59,632 = EUR 14,860.29.
- Total with the basic rate: EUR 74,492.29 a year.
- Not included: wage moderation of 5.67% of pay plus 5.67% of employer contributions, the 0.40% holiday-law supplement, and sector items such as end-of-year bonuses and holiday pay rules that depend on blue- or white-collar status.
The employee's own 13.07% is EUR 7,793.90 a year at this salary. Because some items are unconfirmed, Belgium is left out of our employer cost index for now. Use the international cost calculator for countries with complete data.
Hiring in Belgium through an EOR
An employer of record carries the ONSS registration, the joint committee rules and indexation. Fees for one Belgian employee start at $99 a month with Native Teams (its help center says EUR 99) and top out at $699 with Oyster, per pricing pages read October 16, 2026; Deel sits at $599 (EOR prices compared).
Ordinary Belgian contracts have no probation period, and notice grows with seniority up to 52 weeks, so exits are the larger risk. The Belgium EOR guide has the notice table, our EOR rankings compare providers, and Dutch salaries and French salaries are useful comparisons.
