The average gross salary in the Netherlands was EUR 40,880 a year per job in 2025, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS StatLine table 81431NED, modified October 8, 2026). That figure excludes special payments such as holiday allowance, bonuses and 13th-month pay, which CBS puts at another EUR 6,580 per job, so the two together come to EUR 47,460. Hiring someone at that level costs you EUR 8,775.35 a year in employer premiums on top, and that is before an EOR charges anything.
The average Dutch salary in CBS statistics is the mean agreed gross annual wage per employee job, across all industries, before special payments.

What the EUR 40,880 figure measures
CBS reports a mean, not a median, so a smaller group of high earners pulls it up. It is counted per job, not per full-time worker, and part-time jobs are included. That pulls the per-job average below what a full-time employee earns. CBS counts 1,746 hours in a full-time year for 2025.
The hourly figure is the cleaner comparison: the average hourly wage was EUR 30.53 in 2025. The annual series has climbed quickly, with EUR 34,230 in 2022, EUR 36,540 in 2023, EUR 38,990 in 2024 and EUR 40,880 in 2025: 19.43% higher over three years. CBS marks 2009 to 2025 as definitive data. We have no OECD cross-check for this series, and we have not extracted regional or industry figures from CBS, so this page gives none.
Wages in Holland: what counts as a good salary
The most useful yardstick is the statutory floor. Since July 1, 2026 an adult on the legal minimum earns EUR 14.99 an hour, or 49.10% of the 2025 average hourly wage of EUR 30.53. A full-time 40-hour minimum-wage job pays EUR 31,179.20 a year before holiday allowance.
In practice most Dutch pay is set by sector collective agreements (CAOs), which publish salary scales by job grade and years of experience. That is where you will find what a nurse, a sales lead or a developer earns, and why we do not print salaries by job title: CBS does not publish them in the table we used, and invented figures would mislead you. If you are pricing a specific role, ask the EOR which CAO would apply and request its scale before you make an offer. The Dutch minimum wage page lists youth rates by age.
What an average salary costs an employer all-in
Dutch employee insurance premiums are paid by the employer, and they are charged on all pay including the holiday allowance, up to EUR 79,409 a year. At the average total pay of EUR 47,460, the cost looks like this:
| Item | Per year |
|---|---|
| Agreed annual wage (CBS average per job) | EUR 40,880 |
| Special payments (holiday allowance, bonuses, 13th month) | EUR 6,580 |
| Employer premiums, 18.49% of EUR 47,460 | EUR 8,775.35 |
| Total cost to you | EUR 56,235.35 |

On a fixed-term contract, the high unemployment premium raises the rate to 23.49%, or EUR 11,148.35 a year at the same pay. Mandatory sector pension funds, where a sector has one, and sick pay for up to two years of illness are extra. The international employee cost calculator runs other salaries.
Adding the EOR fee
Without a Dutch company of your own, expect an EOR to bill between $99 a month (Native Teams, whose help center says EUR 99) and $699 (Oyster) per person, or $1,188 to $8,388 over a year, at list prices read October 16, 2026. Deel lists $599 a month (checked October 16, 2026), which is $7,188 a year. Ask whether the quote includes the CAO pension and how the refundable deposit, if any, is sized. Compare providers in our EOR rankings and the EOR price comparison.
Termination is the cost buyers forget. Every Dutch employee builds a transition payment of one-third of a month's pay per year of service, capped at EUR 102,000 in 2026 or one year's salary if higher. The Netherlands EOR guide has notice and probation rules, and Belgian salaries and German salaries are useful comparisons if you are hiring across the border.
