Minimum wage in Hungary 2026: HUF 322,800 a month

Hungary's minimum wage (minimálbér) is HUF 322,800 a month for full-time work from January 1, 2026, under Government Decree 426/2025 (XII.23.), and jobs that require at least secondary education or a vocational qualification must pay the guaranteed wage minimum of HUF 373,200 (Budapest Government Office, 2026 amounts booklet). HUF 322,800 is about $1,000 a month at the ECB rate for October 16, 2026. The employer adds 13% social contribution tax (szocho), HUF 41,964 a month at the minimum wage.
Hungary's guaranteed wage minimum (garantált bérminimum) is a second national floor, above the minimum wage, for jobs that require at least a secondary school education or a vocational qualification.

Which of the two floors applies
The Government sets both floors by decree each year after consulting the social partners. The test is what the job requires, not what the worker happens to hold: a role that needs a secondary diploma or a trade qualification gets at least HUF 373,200, and other roles get at least HUF 322,800. The decree also fixes weekly, daily and hourly amounts for full-time work:
- Minimum wage: HUF 74,210 a week, HUF 14,850 a day, HUF 1,856 an hour
- Guaranteed wage minimum: HUF 85,800 a week, HUF 17,160 a day, HUF 2,145 an hour

Up 61% since 2022
The monthly minimum went from HUF 200,000 in 2022 to HUF 322,800 in 2026, a 61.4% rise in four years. The 2026 step alone was 11.0%, from HUF 290,800. A full year at the 2026 rate is HUF 322,800 x 12 = HUF 3,873,600, about $12,006. No 2027 decree had been published in the sources we checked, and Hungary has raised the rate every January in the series, so budget for another change.
Szocho on a minimum-wage salary
The employer's main charge is the 13% social contribution tax, with no upper cap. From 2026 its minimum base is 100% of the minimum wage or guaranteed wage minimum, after the old 112.5% base adjustment was abolished.
