Minimum wage in Austria 2026: no statutory rate

Austria has no statutory national minimum wage in 2026: minimum pay is set sector by sector in collective agreements (Kollektivverträge) negotiated by the social partners, and Eurostat lists Austria among the five EU countries without a national minimum wage (Eurostat, data as of July 1, 2026). Your legal floor is the pay table in the agreement that covers your business. On top of that pay, an Austrian employer adds about 29.52% to 29.61% in social insurance and payroll charges, according to Deloitte's 2026 Austria tax highlights (a secondary source; we could not read the official contribution pages): EUR 10,332 to EUR 10,363.50 on a EUR 35,000 salary, which is itself about $39,386 at the ECB rate for October 16, 2026.
A Kollektivvertrag is a collective agreement between employer and worker organizations that fixes minimum pay for a whole sector in Austria.

Pay floors come from the sector agreement
Austrian law leaves wage floors to the social partners. Each agreement sets minimum pay for the jobs in its sector, so two employers in different sectors can face different floors for similar work. Many agreements are reported to provide 13th and 14th payments, which is why Austrian salaries are often quoted in 14 installments. That is not a statutory rule, and we did not confirm it from an official source.
Before you write an offer, identify the agreement for your industry and where the role sits in its pay table.
What a EUR 35,000 Austrian salary costs
Our example pays EUR 35,000 a year in 14 installments of EUR 2,500. The employer adds 20.98% social insurance (a secondary-source rate, charged up to a 2026 maximum base of EUR 6,930 a month), 5.54% to 5.63% in other payroll charges (Deloitte gives the total; we did not confirm the split) and 3% municipal tax (Kommunalsteuer). Total: 29.52% to 29.61%, or EUR 10,332 to EUR 10,363.50 a year. The employer's bill is EUR 45,332 to EUR 45,363.50, about $51,012 to $51,048, before any EOR fee.
Market pay as a check on agreement tables
Statistik Austria puts the 2024 median gross annual income of full-time, full-year employees at EUR 55,678, up 8.1%, against EUR 38,043 for all employees including part-time and part-year staff. Treat the agreement table as the legal floor and the full-time median as a market check. More detail is on the Austria average salary page.
Leave and public holidays
The Urlaubsgesetz gives 30 Werktage of paid leave a year, which is 25 working days on a five-day week, rising to 36 Werktage after 25 years of service. Arbeitsruhegesetz s.7 lists 13 public holidays. Both are paid time you should price into a headcount budget.
Employing someone in Austria through an EOR
Without an Austrian entity, an employer of record applies the right agreement, registers the employee and runs the 14 payments. List prices for EOR service, checked October 16, 2026, start at $99 a month with Native Teams (its help center says EUR 99) and top out at $699 with Oyster. Deel's $599 is $7,188 a year, about 14% of the $51,012 employer cost above. See our EOR rankings, the Austria EOR guide, the employer cost index and the international cost calculator. Neighbors with a legal minimum include Germany and Hungary; Italy relies on agreements too.
