Romania's national minimum gross wage is RON 4,325 a month for full-time work from July 1, 2026, up from RON 4,050, which applied from January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 (Eurostat monthly minimum wage data, checked October 18, 2026). At the ECB reference rate for October 16, 2026, RON 4,325 is worth roughly $913. Our sources show Romania withholding pension and health contributions from the employee (we could not re-confirm the rates on an official page this month), so the employer's own payroll charge is small, and for a US company the EOR fee is often the larger addition.

Romania's minimum wage (salariul minim brut pe țară) is a single national gross monthly floor set by government decision after consultation with employers and unions.

A national rate with mid-year raises

The government sets the rate by decision (hotărâre de guvern). Eurostat, which records the rate on January 1 and July 1, shows two mid-year rises: from RON 3,300 to RON 3,700 in 2024, and from RON 4,050 to RON 4,325 in 2026, a 6.8% step. We did not read the 2026 decision itself. Since 2022, when it was RON 2,550, the minimum has risen 69.6%.

Romania has applied higher minimums in construction and in parts of agriculture and the food industry. We have not confirmed the 2026 sector figures, so check whether your activity has one before you settle on the national rate.

What 2026 adds up to

Because the rate changed mid-year, a full-time minimum-wage employee earns 6 x RON 4,050 + 6 x RON 4,325 = RON 50,250 gross in 2026, about $10,607. A full year at the new rate is RON 4,325 x 12 = RON 51,900. The government decision also sets an hourly gross figure for the full-time norm; we have not read it, so use the decision itself for hourly staff.

For scale, Eurostat puts average gross earnings in 2025 at RON 119,616 a year, about RON 9,968 a month, more than twice the new minimum.

Who pays the social contributions

Our sources show pension (CAS) and health (CASS) contributions withheld from the employee's gross pay, not paid by the employer on top; we could not re-confirm them on an official page this month. The employer owes a separate work insurance contribution (CAM) on gross pay; our sources list a rate for it that we could not re-confirm this month, so this page gives no all-in percentage. Ask any provider to show the CAM line on a sample payslip.

Hiring in Romania through an EOR

At list price an EOR adds $99 to $699 per employee each month, from the starting rate at Native Teams (its help center says EUR 99) to Oyster's (checked October 16 and 18, 2026). Deel's $599 is about 66% of the $913 monthly minimum, so the fee weighs heavily on entry-level roles. Shortlist from our EOR scores, check Romanian contract rules in the Romania employer of record guide, and test a real salary in the international cost calculator or the cost index.
