Denmark has no statutory minimum wage in 2026: pay is set by collective agreements between unions and employer organizations, sector by sector, and the government's Life in Denmark portal (updated June 29, 2026) confirms there is no national rate. What employers actually pay is high: Statistics Denmark puts the 2025 median at DKK 48,700 a month and the mean at DKK 53,916, both including pension and holiday pay. For non-EU hires under the Pay Limit Scheme, the floor is DKK 552,000 a year in 2026, according to SIRI.
Denmark's minimum pay is whatever the collective agreement (overenskomst) for a sector sets; Danish law has no national minimum wage.

How Danish pay floors are set
The Danish labor market model leaves pay to the parties. Collective agreements regulate pay and employment terms as a rule, and an agreement can set a minimum wage for its sector. Where no agreement applies, the employer must pay what was agreed in the employment contract, and that is the only legal requirement. Life in Denmark notes that unions publish annual wage statistics that employees use as a starting point when they negotiate.
We have not checked individual agreement scales, and the government publishes no national figure, so we do not quote an hourly minimum. If you see a single Danish minimum wage quoted elsewhere, ask which agreement it comes from.
What Danish employers pay in practice
Statistics Denmark's earnings figures show what employers actually pay. They are standardized to a 37-hour week (160.33 hours a month) and include pension contributions, bonuses and holiday pay, which makes them higher than a base salary.
| Group | Gross a month |
|---|---|
| All wage earners, mean | DKK 53,916 |
| All wage earners, median | DKK 48,700 |
| Private sector, mean | DKK 56,053 |
| Central government, mean | DKK 53,759 |
| Regions, mean | DKK 53,559 |

Source: Statistics Denmark NYT 54629, released Sep 29, 2026. Standardized to 160.33 hours a month (37-hour week); includes pension contributions, bonuses and holiday pay; excludes overtime.
Divided by 160.33 hours, the median works out to DKK 303.75 an hour and the mean to DKK 336.28, our arithmetic on the published monthly figures. Municipal pay is the lowest sector average at DKK 46,320. More detail is on the average Danish salary page.
The DKK 552,000 Pay Limit for foreign hires
If you hire someone from outside the EU through the Pay Limit Scheme, SIRI requires an annual salary of at least DKK 552,000 at the 2026 level, which is DKK 46,000 a month, or 94.46% of the national median. The limit is adjusted every January 1.
What counts: cash salary with guaranteed fixed supplements, labor-market pension contributions from both employer and employee, and holiday allowance within limits (allowance earned is only counted in the year it is paid, and only if your current employer pays it). Benefits such as a company car, phone, canteen or paid housing do not count.
Employer costs on top of Danish pay
Denmark has no percentage-based employer social security tax. Instead, employers pay fixed charges per employee (the ATP employer share, AER, AES occupational injury, the maternity fund and others), about DKK 14,000 to DKK 17,000 a year per full-time employee according to Deloitte's Denmark Highlights 2026 (January 2026), a secondary source; we have not confirmed the item amounts on atp.dk or virk.dk. At a DKK 552,000 salary that is 2.54% to 3.08%. Deloitte also lists occupational injury insurance as required and says the labor-market pension, often 8% to 12% from the employer, comes from the agreement or contract rather than statute. At those rates the pension is the larger budget item. Denmark is not yet in our employer cost index, because these charges are not confirmed on an official page.
Hiring in Denmark through an EOR
An employer of record can tell you which agreement, if any, covers the role and price the pension into the quote. Published list prices run from $99 (Native Teams, whose help center says EUR 99) to $699 (Oyster) per employee per month (EOR prices compared); Deel lists $599 (checked October 16 and 18, 2026).
Salaried employees get employer notice of 1 month in the first six months, rising to 3 months up to three years and 6 months after nine years. Our Denmark EOR guide covers the rest, our EOR rankings compare providers, and the other Nordic pages explain the same model: Sweden, Norway and Finland.
