Average monthly earnings of wage earners in Denmark were DKK 53,916 in 2025, according to Statistics Denmark in its release of September 29, 2026, and the median was DKK 48,700. The mean is about $8,117 a month at the European Central Bank rate of October 16, 2026. Both figures already include pension contributions, bonuses and holiday pay, which makes them higher than a base salary on a contract. On top, employers pay fixed charges per employee that Deloitte (Denmark Highlights 2026, a secondary source) puts at about DKK 14,000 to DKK 17,000 a year, plus occupational injury insurance; we could not confirm the item amounts on official pages.
Danish average earnings from Statistics Denmark are mean gross monthly earnings of wage earners, standardized to a 37-hour week and including pension contributions, bonuses and holiday pay.

What is inside DKK 53,916
Statistics Denmark builds monthly earnings from hourly earnings times 160.33 hours, the monthly equivalent of a 37-hour week. So the mean implies about DKK 336.28 an hour. The figure includes pension contributions, bonuses and holiday pay, and excludes overtime and pay during absence. It covers wage earners on the Danish labor market but not apprentices or workers under 18.
The median of DKK 48,700 is 90% of the mean, a tighter spread than Germany's or Spain's. Either way, a job advertised at a base salary will look lower than these figures, because the pension share and holiday pay are on top of base pay in a contract but inside the statistic. These are per-person earnings, not household income. Twelve times the mean is DKK 646,992 a year.

Sector differences and Copenhagen
The release splits pay by sector, not industry. The private sector averaged DKK 56,053 a month, central government DKK 53,759, the regions DKK 53,559 and municipalities DKK 46,320, DKK 9,733 below the private sector.
There is no full regional table in the release, only highs and lows by sector; private-sector pay was lowest in Nordjylland at DKK 50,295. We have no official Copenhagen figure, so we do not print one.
The employer's cost on top
Denmark has no percentage-based employer social security tax. Instead, employers pay fixed contributions per full-time employee, including the employer share of ATP and levies for the maternity fund and occupational injury schemes, about DKK 14,000 to DKK 17,000 a year in total (Deloitte, Denmark Highlights 2026, a secondary source). Occupational injury insurance with a private insurer is required on top. On the mean salary:
- Earnings: DKK 646,992 a year
- Fixed employer contributions: DKK 14,000 to DKK 17,000
- Total: DKK 660,992 to DKK 663,992, or 2.2% to 2.6% above earnings, before the injury insurance premium
Careful: the employer's labor-market pension, often 8% to 12% of salary under collective agreements according to Deloitte, is already part of the Statistics Denmark figure. If you build an offer from a base salary, add it back. Salaried staff are also commonly owed a 1% holiday supplement (ferietillæg), but we could not confirm it from an official source, so it is not in the total. The Denmark employer of record page covers notice and termination.
An employer of record (EOR) adds a monthly fee: $99 (Native Teams, whose help center says EUR 99) to $699 (Oyster) at list prices checked October 16 and 18, 2026; Deel lists $599. See our ranked EOR providers and the cost index across countries.
No statutory minimum wage in Denmark
Denmark sets no minimum wage in law. Minimum pay is negotiated sector by sector in collective agreements between unions and employer organizations. The Denmark minimum pay page explains what that means for a foreign employer. Nearby: Sweden's average salary and the German median income.
