The median gross salary in Switzerland is CHF 7,024 a month for a full-time job, from the Federal Statistical Office's Swiss Earnings Structure Survey 2024, first published November 25, 2025. The Zurich region is higher at CHF 7,502 a month, and Ticino is the lowest region in the release at CHF 5,708. The only employer cost we could confirm on top is the 5.3% AHV/IV/EO share (2025 rate), CHF 4,467.26 a year on a median salary, and pension, accident and unemployment premiums come on top of that.
The Swiss median salary is the standardized gross monthly wage for a full-time post at which half of employees earn more and half earn less, across the private and public sectors.

How the Federal Statistical Office measures it
CHF 7,024 is a median, the middle wage, so a small group of very high earners does not pull it up the way it would pull up a mean. Every job is converted to a full-time (100%) post, so part-time pay does not drag it down, and it covers the whole economy, public sector included. The survey runs every two years, so 2024 is the latest figure until the next round is published.
Bonuses are left out. About a third of employees received one in 2024, averaging CHF 11,967 a year. Twelve times the median is CHF 84,288 a year, but that is our arithmetic, not a published annual figure. The release gives no mean and we found no OECD cross-check for it.

Average salary in Zurich and the other regions
The Zurich region median of CHF 7,502 a month is CHF 1,794 more than Ticino's CHF 5,708. Twelve times the Zurich median is CHF 90,024. Our research recorded only those two regional figures from the release, so we do not list Geneva, Basel or Bern medians here. Note that the canton of Zurich has no statutory minimum wage, unlike Ticino, where cantonal rates of CHF 20.00 to 20.50 an hour apply (Swiss cantonal minimum wages).
Highest and lowest paying industries
The spread between sectors is wide. Tobacco tops the list at a CHF 14,304 monthly median, followed by banks at CHF 10,723, pharmaceuticals at CHF 10,159 and research and development at CHF 9,139. At the other end, personal services pay CHF 4,496, accommodation CHF 4,715, gastronomy CHF 4,744 and retail CHF 5,214. A tobacco median is 3.18 times a personal services median. Geneva's minimum wage of CHF 4,262.27 a month at 40 hours is 94.80% of the personal services median, so in low-wage sectors the cantonal floors sit close to typical pay.
What a median-salary hire costs you
On CHF 84,288 a year, the confirmed employer share of AHV/IV/EO at 5.3% is CHF 4,467.26, for CHF 88,755.26. That is a floor, not the full bill. Unemployment insurance, the occupational pension (BVG), accident insurance and the family allowance fund come on top, and we have not confirmed their 2026 rates. The international employee cost calculator covers countries with complete data, and the employer cost index shows how other countries compare.
Through an employer of record, add $99 (Native Teams, whose help center says EUR 99) to $699 (Oyster) a month at published list prices (compare EOR prices). Deel lists $599 per employee per month (checked October 16, 2026).
Before you make a Swiss offer
Price against the regional median, not the national one: a Zurich offer at CHF 7,024 is below that region's middle. Check whether a collective agreement covers the role. And budget for the notice period, which is one month in the first year, two months in years two to nine and three months from year ten. Our Switzerland EOR guide has the rest of the rules, our EOR rankings compare providers, and German salaries and Austrian salaries are the nearest comparisons.
