Where the figure comes from

Eurostat builds its average worker from national earnings data to compare taxes on labor across the EU. The gross figure is a mean. Romania's statistics institute (INS) publishes monthly average earnings, but its site blocked our reading. Earlier values were RON 71,004 (2022) and RON 82,524 (2023), so pay rose about 45% in two years. Eurostat flags a 2024 series break, so we leave that year out.

Gross against take-home pay

The RON 49,640.64 gap between gross and net is the employee's contributions and income tax: pension and health come out of the worker's pay, which is why net is so much lower. Net pay works out to RON 5,831.28 a month, about $14,771 a year.

Against the minimum wage

The gross minimum wage rose to RON 4,325 a month on July 1, 2026, from RON 4,050, per Eurostat. The 2025 average month is about 2.3 times the new floor. History is on the Romanian minimum wage page.

Employer cost and EOR fees

The employer's own charge is the work insurance contribution (CAM). We have not confirmed its 2026 rate on an official page, so get it in writing; our Romania EOR guide tracks it. What we can price is the provider: fees run from $99 a month (Native Teams; its help center says EUR 99) to $699 (Oyster), checked October 2026. Deel's $599 is about RON 2,838 a month, roughly 28% of the average gross month. Compare EOR fees and our EOR rankings.
