Playroll

Playroll is $200 a month cheaper than Deel at list price, states its deposit in plain terms and charges nothing to onboard or offboard. It loses points for silence on entities, FX and notice, and for a small, mixed Trustpilot record.

Source: Playroll pricing page, checked October 18, 2026. Fees are $399 x headcount; deposit is total yearly salary / 12. Salary and employer statutory costs are billed on top.

For one employee, year one comes to $48,121.33 in cash out before employer costs (40,000 + 4,788 + 3,333.33), with $3,333.33 coming back after the employee leaves. Playroll does not publish when the refund arrives, and a reviewer in April 2026 said deposit returns were slow. Employer costs vary by country; our EOR employer cost index shows them on a USD 40,000 salary.

Deposit, FX and exit terms

Deposit: "equivalent to 1 month's salary" per employee onboarded, fully refundable, refund timing not stated.

Setup and offboarding: Playroll says it does not charge employers onboarding or offboarding fees. Statutory termination costs in the employee's country still apply.

FX: not stated. Playroll pays in 60+ currencies and a reviewer reports unclear exchange-rate information on salaries.

Term and notice: no minimum commitment and no minimum number of employees. Notice terms are not published on the pages we checked, and we did not read Playroll's terms of service.

Before signing, ask Playroll for its notice period, its FX method and how many days a deposit refund takes. None of the three is on its site.

Entity model and coverage

Playroll hires in 180+ countries, runs in-country payroll in 35+ markets and offers visa support in 95+. It makes no claim about owning entities; the site says only that you can hire "without setting up local entities". Ask whether your employee's country runs on a Playroll entity or a partner. Our employer of record guide covers why that matters. Playroll states SOC 2 Type II certification and GDPR compliance.

Reviews and complaints

Playroll holds 4.7 from 248 reviews on G2 but 3.1 from only 14 on Trustpilot, where 21% are one-star (both seen October 18, 2026). The Trustpilot complaints are few but specific, and one is more than a year old:

  • Support and expenses: unanswered emails and slow expense claims (December 2024, more than a year old).
  • Billing: incorrect invoices and slow deposit refunds (April 2026).
  • Sales: repeated, unwanted sales outreach (August 2026).

Other reviewers mention hard-to-reach phone support, and G2 reviewers add little visibility into when payroll updates and reimbursements are processed.

What works

  • Low list price from $399
  • Deposit size published
  • No onboarding or offboarding fees
  • No minimum commitment or headcount

Watch out for

  • No owned-entity or partner statement
  • FX method and notice terms not published
  • 24x5 support, not 24/7
  • Thin, mixed Trustpilot record

Who Playroll fits, and who it does not

Playroll fits a small company making its first one to five hires abroad that wants a low price, no lock-in and a deposit it can budget for.

Look elsewhere if you need to know who the legal employer is in your country, need weekend support, or are hiring on high salaries where a month's pay per head ties up a lot of cash.

How Playroll scores

Playroll scores 60/100 on our EOR method. The low price and the published deposit rule earn most of its points; the missing entity, FX and notice terms and a thin Trustpilot record cost it. For context, Multiplier scores 79 and Oyster 64. The rules are in how we score providers.
