Croatia's minimum wage is EUR 1,050 gross a month for full-time work from January 1, 2026, set by Government decree under the Minimum Wage Act and reported by Eurostat (dataset updated July 31, 2026). That is about $1,181.57 a month in US dollars at the European Central Bank reference rate of October 16, 2026.
In 2025 the minimum was EUR 970, so the 2026 rise was EUR 80, or 8.25%. The employer adds 16.5% health insurance on top of gross pay, so a full-time employee on the minimum costs EUR 1,223.25 a month.
Croatia's minimum wage (minimalna plaća) is the lowest gross monthly pay for full-time work, set once a year by Government decree under the Minimum Wage Act and paid pro rata for part-time.

One national rate, fixed by decree
Croatia has a single national minimum with no regional or sector rates. The Government adopts a decree on the amount (Uredba o visini minimalne plaće) each year under the Minimum Wage Act (Zakon o minimalnoj plaći), and part-time workers receive it pro rata. We confirmed the 2026 amount through Eurostat's minimum wage dataset rather than the decree text in Narodne novine. The 2027 decree is normally adopted late in the year and had not been seen as of October 18, 2026.

From kuna to euro: the rise since 2022
In 2022 the minimum was HRK 4,687.50 a month, which Eurostat shows as about EUR 622 after conversion. Since the euro changeover the steps have been large: EUR 700 in 2023, EUR 840 in 2024, EUR 970 in 2025 and EUR 1,050 in 2026. That is a 68.81% increase on the 2022 euro value in four years. For an employer, it means a role priced near the floor in 2023 now costs half as much again.
Per hour, per year and take-home
Full-time is a 40-hour week under Croatia's Labor Act (Zakon o radu, article 61). Croatia does not publish an hourly minimum, so the conversions are ours:
- Per year: 12 x 1,050 = EUR 12,600 (about $14,179)
- Per hour: 12,600 / (52 x 40) = about EUR 6.06
The employee pays 20% pension contributions out of gross pay, EUR 210 at the minimum, leaving EUR 840 before income tax, which is not calculated here. For 2026 the minimum monthly base for contributions is EUR 757.34.
What a Croatian employer pays
The employer's only regular contribution is health insurance at 16.5% of gross pay, according to the Croatian Tax Administration's contributions page (last updated January 8, 2025).
- Health insurance: 16.5% x 1,050 = EUR 173.25 a month
- Monthly cost: EUR 1,223.25 (about $1,377)
- Yearly cost: 12 x 1,223.25 = EUR 14,679
Croatia has no statutory 13th salary. Employees get at least four weeks (20 working days on a five-day week) of paid annual leave under the Labor Act as enacted in 2014, which is the text we read, and 14 public holidays. The employer cost index puts Croatia's 16.5% beside its neighbors.
Hiring in Croatia without a local company
An employer of record runs Croatian payroll, files contributions and handles the employment contract. The cheapest published EOR fee we found is $99 a month (Native Teams, whose help center says EUR 99) and the highest $699 (Oyster), both checked October 16 and 18, 2026. Remote lists from $599, about half the monthly minimum wage of about $1,182.
