Lithuania's minimum wage (MMA) is EUR 1,153 a month for unskilled full-time work from January 1, 2026, with a minimum hourly rate (MVA) of EUR 7.05, set by the Government on the Tripartite Council's recommendation (Eurostat and the Ministry of Social Security and Labor, checked October 18, 2026). In dollars that is roughly $1,297 a month (ECB reference rate, October 16, 2026). Because employees carry most social insurance in Lithuania, the employer adds only 1.77% on an open-ended contract, about EUR 20.41 a month at the minimum.

The MMA (minimali mėnesinė alga) is Lithuania's minimum monthly wage for unskilled work; the MVA is the matching minimum hourly rate for part-time and hourly-paid staff.

MMA, MVA and who they cover

The Labor Code has the Government set both figures each year after the Tripartite Council recommends them. The MMA applies to full-time unskilled work; the MVA of EUR 7.05 (about $7.93) is the floor for hourly pay.

Five years of increases and the 2027 proposal

The MMA rose from EUR 730 in 2022 to EUR 1,153 in 2026, with 11.1% in 2026 alone (from EUR 1,038). A year at the 2026 rate is EUR 1,153 x 12 = EUR 13,836, about $15,570.

For 2027 the Government approved a draft on July 1, 2026 for EUR 1,245 a month and EUR 7.61 an hour, about 8.0% more. It is not final until it passes the autumn budget process, so treat it as a planning figure.

Why the employer cost is 1.77%

The employee carries 19.5% in Sodra contributions (pension, sickness, maternity and health), withheld from gross pay. The employer pays unemployment insurance of 1.31% on open-ended contracts (2.03% on fixed-term), accident insurance of 0.14% in risk group I, 0.16% to the guarantee fund and 0.16% to the long-term employment benefits fund. Total: 1.77%, or 2.49% on a fixed-term contract.

At the MMA: EUR 1,153 x 1.77% = EUR 20.41, so the monthly cost is EUR 1,173.41.

We could not read the State Data Agency's average earnings tables, so this page does not compare the floor with typical pay.

Hiring in Lithuania through an EOR

With employer charges this low, the EOR fee is most of the overhead. Per-employee EOR fees on vendors' price pages run $99 to $699 a month, the starting price at Native Teams (its help center says EUR 99) at one end and Oyster at the other (checked October 16 and 18, 2026); Deel's $599 is about 46% of a minimum-wage salary. That makes provider choice the main cost lever: see our EOR scores, the Lithuania hiring guide and the calculator. Lithuania's 1.77% is among the lowest in the cost index; compare Latvia, Estonia and Poland.
