Reading the CSO weekly figure

The CSO publishes earnings per week, per quarter. It does not publish an annual average salary in this release, so any yearly number is arithmetic. EUR 1,046.88 x 52 = EUR 54,437.76, as an illustration. Because part-time staff are included and average paid hours were 32.8 a week, a full-time salary sits above that figure. The hourly rate, EUR 31.96, is the cleaner benchmark when hours differ.

The CSO figure is a mean and it is gross, before PAYE income tax, USC and employee PRSI. The release does not include a median, so it gives no official median income for Ireland. Quarterly values move around: across 2025 they ranged from EUR 996.10 in Q3 to EUR 1,029.81 in Q1.

Sector gaps and the Dublin question

Pay varies widely by sector. Information and communication averaged EUR 1,730.61 a week, finance, insurance and real estate EUR 1,499.23 and professional, scientific and technical work EUR 1,294.65. Accommodation and food service averaged EUR 506.78, less than a third of the top sector.

The CSO release has no county or city split, so we do not publish a Dublin average salary.

Employer PRSI and pension on average pay

Employer PRSI (Class A) is 11.40% of all pay where weekly earnings exceed EUR 552, from October 1, 2026 (it was 11.25% until September 30), with no upper ceiling. Since January 1, 2026, My Future Fund auto-enrollment adds an employer contribution of 1.5% of gross pay for employees aged 23 to 60 earning EUR 20,000 or more who have no payroll pension. On the average weekly wage:

  • Earnings: EUR 1,046.88
  • Employer PRSI at 11.40%: EUR 119.34
  • Auto-enrollment at 1.5%: EUR 15.70
  • Total: EUR 1,181.92 a week, or EUR 61,459.84 over 52 weeks

The auto-enrollment rate rises to 3% in year four and 6% from year ten. The Ireland employer of record breakdown covers redundancy and notice. Hiring through an employer of record (EOR) means a monthly fee as well. On October 16, 2026, the lowest published list price was $99 (Native Teams, whose help center says EUR 99) and the highest $699 (Oyster); Deel's was $599. Compare all of them in our ranked EOR list.

Average earnings and the national minimum wage

The national minimum wage is EUR 14.15 an hour for employees aged 20 and over from January 1, 2026. Average hourly earnings of EUR 31.96 are 2.26 times that. At 39 hours a week, a minimum wage job pays EUR 28,696.20 a year. Rates for younger workers are on the Irish minimum wage page, and Irish leave entitlements cover holidays and sick pay. For context, see the UK median salary or the employer cost index.
