PrestigePEO review: pricing, CPEO status and what to ask

We may earn a commission when you sign up through some links on this page. Commissions never change our scores or the order of our lists. How we make money.

PrestigePEO does not publish a price: prestigepeo.com offers quotes only, with no admin fee, setup fee, contract term or exit terms on the site (checked October 16, 2026). Three Prestige entities are on the IRS active certified PEO list dated August 7, 2026, and PrestigePEO scores 20 out of 100 on our PEO scale, mostly because so little is published.

So the real price lives in your quote. Below is what PrestigePEO says about itself, how a quote should compare with published PEO prices, and the questions that decide what you pay and what it costs to leave.

PrestigePEO is a professional employer organization (PEO): it co-employs the staff of small and midsize businesses, runs their payroll and benefits, and prices its service by quote.

Looking for a pay stub or W-2 rather than a PEO? This page is for employers comparing PEOs. If your company uses PrestigePEO, your HR contact or the support line on prestigepeo.com is the place to ask.

How PrestigePEO describes itself

PrestigePEO calls itself a "leading national PEO" for small and midsize firms and says it works with businesses "whether you have 10 employees or 500." Its pitch is people over software: the site promises "No call centers. No chatbots." and lists separate sales and support phone numbers.

Two of those claims need checking before you sign. "National" comes with no list of states, so get written confirmation that PrestigePEO can co-employ staff in every state where you have people, and ask whether it holds the state PEO license or registration where one applies. Texas, for example, requires a PEO license even for a single Texas employee, and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation runs a public license search. New York publishes a list of registered PEOs. We did not check PrestigePEO against any state list.

The site mentions "industry certifications" without naming them. The IRS is more specific: three Prestige entities hold active certified PEO (CPEO) status. Because there are three, and because the IRS warns that the names of many CPEOs are similar, ask which entity will sign your contract and check its exact name and EIN against the list. Our list of IRS-certified PEOs explains how to read it.

PrestigePEO pricing: what to expect from a quote

PrestigePEO publishes no fee, and our research turned up no third-party estimate for it either. Any PrestigePEO number you see elsewhere should come with a source and a date. What you can do is test a quote against the market.

PEOs charge in one of two ways: a flat fee per employee per month, or a percent of total payroll. ADP's PEO cost guide (updated July 14, 2026) puts industry fees at 2% to 12% of total payroll, or about $40 to $160 per employee per month. Justworks is the one large PEO that posts its price: $79 per employee per month for PEO Basic and $124 for PEO Plus (checked October 16, 2026).

Admin fee benchmarks to hold a PrestigePEO quote against, per month
EmployeesIndustry low ($40)Industry high ($160)Justworks Basic ($79)Justworks Plus ($124)
5$200$800$395$620
10$400$1,600$790$1,240
25$1,000$4,000$1,975$3,100

Monthly fee = employees x per-employee rate. Benchmarks from ADP (Jul 14, 2026 guide) and Justworks (pricing page, checked Oct 16, 2026); not PrestigePEO prices.

The fee basis changes the math. Say PrestigePEO quotes a percent of payroll for 10 employees earning $50,000 each. That is $500,000 of payroll a year, so 2% is $10,000 a year ($833.33 a month) and 12% is $60,000 a year ($5,000 a month). A percent fee also grows each time you give raises. A flat per-employee fee does not: Insperity, for comparison, says its per-employee service charge "won't increase if you pay your employees more."

The admin fee is only part of the bill. Health premiums, workers' comp, state unemployment tax (SUTA), Social Security, Medicare and FUTA come on top or are folded into other lines. Ask PrestigePEO to show each one separately. Our guide to what a PEO costs per employee, all in walks through every line, and 2026 SUTA rates by state covers the state tax piece.

Benefits, workers' comp and taxes

None of PrestigePEO's benefit plans, carriers or 401(k) details appear on the pages we checked, which is why it scores 0 of 20 for benefits access. That does not mean its plans are weak. It means you will only see them in a proposal.

Customers of other PEOs show what to look for. An ADP TotalSource reviewer on Capterra (March 31, 2025) said she was "limited to just Aetna health plans that increase every year," and others reported renewals up 8% and 18%. Ask PrestigePEO for the carriers and plans open in each of your states, the employer contribution its quote assumes, and two years of renewal history for clients your size.

Workers' comp is where PEO fees get hard to see. An ADP TotalSource customer wrote on Capterra (October 23, 2024) that "the admin fees are hidden in the workers comp rates." Ask PrestigePEO whether you would sit on its master policy or keep your own, for the rate per $100 of payroll for each job class code, and whether a year-end audit can produce an extra bill.

On federal payroll taxes, the CPEO status helps you. Under 26 USC 3511(a), a certified PEO is treated as the employer for federal employment taxes on the wages it pays. Under 3511(b), Social Security and FUTA wage bases do not restart when you join or leave a CPEO partway through the year. Tax credits such as the work opportunity credit stay with your company.

Send these in writing and line the answers up against at least two other quotes from the PEO companies we rank.

Questions to put to PrestigePEO in writing
AskWhy it matters
Is the agreement month to month or a fixed term, and does it renew on its own?PrestigePEO publishes no term. Some PEO deals lock you in: Deel's US PEO promotion (July 15 to Dec 31, 2026) requires a minimum two-year term.
What notice do I give to leave, and what does leaving cost?Exit terms are not published. Get the notice period in days and any early termination or transition fee in dollars.
Is the admin fee flat per employee or a percent of payroll?A percent fee rises with every raise; a flat fee does not.
Will we be on your master workers' comp policy or our own? What is the rate per $100 of payroll for each class code, and are there deposits or year-end audits?Workers' comp is where PEO fees are hardest to see.
Which carriers and plans are open in each of our states, what employer contribution does the quote assume, and what were renewals for clients our size the last two years?Benefits are not published, and renewals drive year-two cost.
Is there a setup fee or a minimum headcount?Neither is published. The site's own wording starts at 10 employees.
Which Prestige entity signs the contract, and what is its EIN?Three Prestige entities are on the IRS list, and the IRS warns that many CPEO names are similar.
Who files year-end forms and issues W-2s for the year we leave, and how long do we keep access to payroll records?Record access after exit is not published by any PEO we track.
Can our 401(k) plan move to a new provider when we leave, or must it be closed and rolled over? The 401(k) transfer is a common sticking point when leaving a PEO.

Leaving PrestigePEO

PrestigePEO does not publish how to leave, so the client service agreement is the only place to find the notice period and any exit fee. Read that part before you sign, not when you want out.

Leaving a PEO touches more than payroll. Reviewers of other PEOs describe keeping payroll with the provider and dropping the PEO layer ("I am keeping the payroll and dumping TS," Capterra, May 24, 2024), and benefits and 401(k) moves in the middle of a plan year are where things go wrong. Time the move for a quarter end and get the benefits and 401(k) transfer steps in writing. Because the Prestige entities are certified, the 3511(b) rule means your employees' Social Security and FUTA wages carry over instead of starting again.

If you are deciding between a PEO and plain payroll software plus a benefits broker, our PEO vs payroll service comparison sets out the trade-off.

PrestigePEO reviews and complaints

There is almost nothing public to go on. G2 shows a 5.0 rating from a single review, and Trustpilot shows no reviews at all (both seen October 16, 2026). One review proves nothing either way, and with so little to read we found no recurring complaints.

When reviews are this thin, references do the work. Ask PrestigePEO for two or three current clients of your size and industry, then ask them about renewal increases, how fast payroll errors got fixed, and whether they ever tried to leave.

PrestigePEO ties Questco for 10th of the 15 PEOs we score. Nearly all of its points come from compliance: certified status plus a national service claim. It loses the rest on price, benefits and contract terms because none are published. Scores follow our PEO scoring method and rise when a vendor publishes more.

Who PrestigePEO may suit

What works

  • Three entities on the IRS active CPEO list (Aug 7, 2026)
  • Says it serves 10 to 500 employees with no formal minimum
  • Direct phone lines: "No call centers. No chatbots."

Watch out for

  • No published price, fee basis or setup fee
  • No published contract term or exit terms
  • Benefit plans and carriers not shown
  • One G2 review and no Trustpilot reviews to check

PrestigePEO may suit a company of 10 to 500 employees that wants a certified PEO and a person on the phone, and is willing to collect terms through a quote. If you want a price before a sales call, start with Justworks. If you have fewer than 10 employees, confirm PrestigePEO will take you before you spend time on a proposal.

Better-documented PEOs to quote alongside PrestigePEO

  • Justworks PEO review (score 67): posts $79 and $124 per employee per month and says it charges no setup fee.
  • TriNet PEO review (score 50): quote only, but explains that health premiums sit outside its per-employee fee and confirms a minimum headcount exists.
  • ADP TotalSource review (score 44): quote only; workers' comp is included in the service fee, and tax payments are bonded up to $1 million a year.
  • Paychex PEO review (score 34): assigns an HR business partner to clients under 10 employees and names Aetna, MetLife, Delta Dental and Chubb.
  • Insperity PEO review (score 33): charges a fixed per-employee service fee that does not rise with wages.

All five are on the IRS active CPEO list too. See every score in our best PEO companies ranking, or start from the PEO section.

Frequently asked questions

How much does PrestigePEO cost?
PrestigePEO does not publish prices, setup fees or minimums; it quotes each company (prestigepeo.com, checked October 16, 2026). As a benchmark, ADP's PEO cost guide puts industry admin fees at about $40 to $160 per employee per month or 2% to 12% of payroll, so 10 employees would run $400 to $1,600 a month before benefits, workers' comp and payroll taxes. That range is not a PrestigePEO quote.
Is PrestigePEO a certified PEO?
Yes. The IRS active CPEO list dated August 7, 2026 includes Prestige Employee Administrators, LLC, Prestige Employee Administrators II, LLC. and Prestige PEO III LLC. PrestigePEO's own site mentions only "industry certifications," so check that your contract names one of those entities and its EIN.
Why does PrestigePEO show up on my pay stub or W-2?
If your employer uses PrestigePEO, you are co-employed: PrestigePEO runs payroll and employment taxes while your company directs your work. Under 26 USC 3511(a), a certified PEO is treated as the employer for federal employment taxes on the wages it pays, so a Prestige entity name can appear on your tax forms. Your HR contact or PrestigePEO support can send copies.
Does PrestigePEO have a minimum number of employees?
PrestigePEO states no formal minimum. Its site says it works with businesses "whether you have 10 employees or 500" (checked October 16, 2026), so a company with fewer than 10 employees should confirm eligibility before asking for a full proposal.
Can you cancel PrestigePEO, and are there exit fees?
PrestigePEO does not publish its contract term, notice period or exit fees (checked October 16, 2026). Ask for the client service agreement before you sign and look for the notice period in days, any early termination or transition fee, and who issues W-2s for the year you leave.
What do PrestigePEO reviews say?
Very little. G2 shows 5.0 from one review and Trustpilot shows no reviews (both seen October 16, 2026). That is too few to show any pattern, so ask PrestigePEO for references from clients of your size and industry.
