Taiwan's minimum wage is TWD 29,500 a month and TWD 196 an hour from January 1, 2026, under the Minimum Wage Act, as stated by the Ministry of Labor (checked October 18, 2026). That is about $926 a month and $6.15 an hour at the US Treasury rate for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. The Minimum Wage Review Committee decided on September 24, 2026 to raise the rates to TWD 30,900 and TWD 205 from January 1, 2027, pending Executive Yuan approval, and labor insurance and pension add TWD 4,351.25 a month for the employer at the current rate, based on an insured salary table we read only in a secondary copy.

Taiwan's minimum wage is a pair of national floors, one monthly for monthly-paid staff and one hourly for hourly and part-time workers, set under the Minimum Wage Act.

Monthly or hourly: which minimum applies

Taiwan's law sets the two figures separately. Staff paid by the month must get at least TWD 29,500 for a full month. Hourly-paid and part-time workers must get at least TWD 196 for every hour. The rate is the same across the island and in every industry covered by the Act, which has been in force since 2024.

The 2027 decision

The Ministry of Labor's Minimum Wage Review Committee, with labor, employer, government and academic members, meets each year, usually in the third quarter. On September 24, 2026 it agreed TWD 30,900 a month and TWD 205 an hour for 2027, a 4.75% monthly rise and the 11th annual increase in a row. The decision went to the Executive Yuan, where it was on the October 1, 2026 meeting agenda; the Ministry says it still needed cabinet approval, which we could not confirm on the pages we read. The 2026 rates themselves rose from TWD 28,590 and TWD 190 in 2025.

Employer contributions at TWD 29,500

Taiwan's lowest labor insurance salary grade for 2026 is TWD 29,500, matching the minimum wage, according to a copy of the Ministry of Labor order published by Ramco (a secondary source; the Bureau of Labor Insurance site returned an error). On that grade the employer pays:

  • Labor insurance (ordinary plus employment insurance): employer 70% of the 12.5% rate, 8.75% x 29,500 = TWD 2,581.25.
  • Labor pension: at least 6% of monthly wages into the employee's account, 6% x 29,500 = TWD 1,770.

That is TWD 4,351.25 a month (about $137), 14.75% of pay. National Health Insurance comes on top: the premium is 5.17% with the employer paying 60%, adjusted by an average dependents factor we have not confirmed, and occupational accident and wage arrears items also apply. Taiwan has no statutory 13th month, but a year-end bonus of one to two months' pay is customary.
